Finances and transparancy

How are our projects funded?

Naturally, providing aid for so many people across the world entails significant costs. Handicap International requires funds to meet the cost of equipment, infrastructure, training, awareness-raising actions and skilled personnel, among other things. To ensure the continuity of our projects, we require a solid financial base. Our income comes from private donations and institutional funding (governments, national and international organisations, foundations and institutions). On average, just over 60% of Handicap International projects are funded by Belgian and international bodies. Private donations are nevertheless vital to us. These private contributions afford us greater independence vis-à-vis institutional funding providers and enable us to ensure the sustainability of our projects. As a matter of principle, Handicap International allocates the highest possible percentage of funds received directly to projects that benefit the people we support.

We make good use of your donations

We attach great importance to good management of the funds put at our disposal. Therefore, all the association’s accounts are inspected by an auditor appointed by the General Meeting. In addition, our annual accounts are verified by independent auditors. These controls and our rigorous internal procedures allow us to guarantee optimal management of the funds made available to us.

Handicap International is also a member of the Association pour une éthique dans la récoltes de fonds (Association for Ethical Fundraising), and has signed this association’s code of ethics, which also respects the right to information. Donors, supporters and members of staff are continually kept up to date on the use of funds received. Additional information can be requested at any time.
