Physical Therapist, Kunduz, Afghanistan

Handicap International is looking for a physical therapist for the implementation and follow-up of early physical and functional rehabilitation services (IPD, OPD, technical aids and assistive devices, patients’ information and training and referral) in the Traumatology Center in Kunduz in coordination with the MSF medical team.

More specifically, the duties and responsibilities of the PT expatriate are related to:

  1. The setting up of the rehabilitation services
  2. Technical follow-up (training and follow-up of local team)
  3. Patients and rehab services management
  4. Coordination
  5. Reporting

Profile required for the position

  • Certified Physical Therapist
  • Languages: English (fluent in writing and speaking); French is an asset
  • Professional experience (at least 3 years), preferably in a hospital structure;
  • General and broad knowledge and skills in the different domains of physical therapy (traumatology, orthopedics, neurology, chest therapy); a specialization or more specific experience in traumatology and orthopedics is needed (fracture, amputation, skin damages, joint displacement…). Expertise and technical skills for casting (plastering) and traction follow-up is expected;
  • Professional experience in an emergency or crisis situation is an asset;
  • Computer literate (at least: Word and Excel)

The candidate also needs to be

  • Self-control in catastrophe, conflict or tension situation;
  • Dynamic and flexible;
  • Independent, rigorous and innovative in the organization of his/her tasks and work;
  • Capable of living in basic conditions;
  • Capable of living and working in team;
  • Motivation of the associative sector;
  • Adheres to Handicap International’s vision: a world in which all forms of disabilities can be prevented, cared for or integrated, and in which the rights of people with disabilities are respected and applied

Conditions

  • Full time fixed-term contract of 6 months
  • Gross salary: 1576 €/month + experience + qualifications + languages
  • Expected arrival date: end of March 2012
  • No possibility for couples nor children.
