Despite the downpours, the opening of the outdoor photo exhibition Welcome to Life brought in a large crowd.
Finally it is here: Welcome to Life, with photos from Layla Aerts, Bieke Depoorter and Katrijn Van Giel. The three successful photographers travelled to Cambodia, Mali, Vietnam and Belgium in their search for beautiful and poignant images. They show a woman's pregnancy and childbirth experience and how she raises her children through the ups and downs.
The ten major structures - illuminated at night - show moving pictures, of a future mother and father for example, who look forward to the birth of their child. Other photographs are confronting and show that not every pregnant woman, young mother or newborn child have the same opportunities. The exhibition is therefore devoted to the Millennium Development Goals four and five, which strive for better health for mothers and children.
The first reactions are positive. The guests were enthusiastic, passersby stayed a moment, children excitedly wanted to know more and also Mr Courard, the Secretary of State, was impressed.
Welcome to Life runs until May 29. Come visit us!
