Sladjan Vuckovic served as a deminer in the Yugoslav Army for 15 years. In 1999 he was injured during a clearance operation at the Kopaonik National Park. He lost both arms, his leg and chest were injured and his hearing was damaged.
“With a little good will, tolerance, and understanding, we will clear areas contaminated by clustermunitions,
destroy stockpiles, and new (clustermunitions) will never be produced again,” said Vuckovic at the Belgrade
Conference in October 2007.
Father of two, Vuckovic lives in Niš. He is an expert on clearance and has been campaigning with the Ban
Advocates since 2007. He speaks Serbian and is currently studying English. Vuckovic is accompanied by his wife Dusica and his interpreter Mrs. Svetlana Bogdanovic.
