1% of humanitarian aid goes to people with disabilities and older people

Brussels, 22 February 2012. A study published today by two NGOs, HelpAge International and Handicap International, reveals a major gap between the needs of older people and/or people with disabilities and the level of humanitarian aid provided to meet these needs. Only 1% of international humanitarian aid is specifically allocated to these groups, despite the fact that they are often severely affected by crises and disasters.

Released today in Geneva, the Cluster Munition Monitor 2011 provides an annual review of the progress of the Convention on Cluster Munitions which bans the use, stockpiling, production and transfer of cluster munitions worldwide.

Cluster bomb ban treaty reaches 30th ratification milestone

Bruxelles, le 17 février 2010– En ratifiant hier la Convention sur les armes à sous-munitions, la Moldavie et le Burkina Faso ont permis d’atteindre les trente ratifications nécessaires à l’entrée en vigueur de celle-ci dans 6 mois, le 1er août. Handicap International se réjouit de ce grand pas en avant, mais appelle les États qui ne l’ont pas encore fait à rejoindre sans retard la Convention et à respecter leurs promesses de destruction des stocks, de dépollution et d’assistance aux victimes.
