Support to local associations

In eight countries where Handicap International works the organisation supports other organisations of and for persons with disabilities. On the strength of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, we assist these organisations and help them to learn how they can protect their rights.

In doing so, we bring about small and large changes in the daily lives of persons with disabilities.
We strengthen the capacity of local associations by providing them with training and advice. We also help them to implement awareness campaigns for the public and the authorities. Lastly, we work alongside disability associations to carry out advocacy work in order to help them to demand their rights.

Has the country ratified the Convention? If yes, is it applied? Are the laws respected?
The aim is that when we leave a country the associations are capable of continuing the advocacy work to enable persons with disabilities to enjoy the same rights as other citizens.
