Le jeudi 14 novembre 2024, Handicap International et la Brussels Diplomatic Academy (VUB) vous invitent à une projection gratuite du documentaire primé For Sama. Ce film met en lumière l’impact dévastateur des conflits sur les populations civiles.
Le bombardement et le pilonnage des villes, des cités et d'autres zones densément peuplées sont devenus une triste réalité des conflits modernes, infligeant d'immenses souffrances. Alors que les conflits persistent et s'intensifient dans le monde entier, l'impact dévastateur des armes explosives sur les civils est indéniable. Des quartiers urbains surpeuplés aux écoles et aux hôpitaux, aucune partie de la vie civile n'échappe à la violence provoquée par ces armes.
Il est crucial de mettre en lumière les souffrances subies par les civils et d'appeler à des actions concrètes pour y mettre un terme. Handicap International s'engage à renforcer la protection des civils et des infrastructures vitales en période de conflit. À travers le documentaire "For Sama", notre but est de rendre compte de la réalité des bombardements sur la ville d'Alep en Syrie. Nous voulons montrer comment ces attaques ont profondément affecté des milliers de civils, en mettant en avant l'histoire poignante de Waad et de Hamza.
Après la projection du film, une discussion aura lieu avec Hamza al-Kateab (médecin syrien et activiste des droits humains apparaissant dans le documentaire) et Alma Taslidžan (experte en désarmement et protection des civils chez Handicap International).
For Sama relate la vie de Waad al-Kateab pendant cinq années au cœur de l'opposition à Alep, en Syrie. Ce documentaire se présente comme une lettre d'amour touchante d'une jeune mère à sa fille. Handicap International and Brussels Diplomatic Academy (VUB) are organizing on Thursday, November 14, 2024 a free screening of the award-winning documentary 'For Sama'. The film shows the devastating impact of wars on innocent civilians.
Bombing and shelling of towns, cities and other areas where civilians live has become a harrowing reality of modern conflict, inflicting untold suffering upon innocent civilians. As conflicts persist and intensify around the globe, the devastating impact of explosive weapons on civilian populations cannot be overstated. From densely packed urban neighbourhoods to bustling marketplaces, schools, and hospitals, no corner of civilian life remains untouched by the indiscriminate violence unleashed by explosive weapons.
It is our imperative to shed light on the profound human cost and advocate for meaningful action to end the horrors inflicted upon innocent lives. Handicap International has been working towards strengthening the protection of civilians and essential civilian infrastructure in conflicts. With For Sama documentary, we want to show the reality captured while Syrian town of Aleppo was bombed and how it impacted thousands of civilians, particularly Waad and Hamza.
The film screening will be followed by a discussion with Hamza al-Kateab (Syrian doctor and human rights activist) and Alma Taslidžan (Disarmament and Protection of Civilians Advocacy Manager at Handicap International - Humanity & Inclusion)
FOR SAMA is both an intimate and epic journey into the female experience of war. A love letter from a young mother to her daughter, the film tells the story of Waad al-Kateab’s life through five years of the uprising in Aleppo, Syria as she falls in love, gets married and gives birth to Sama, all while cataclysmic conflict rises around her.
Her camera captures incredible stories of loss, laughter and survival as Waad wrestles with an impossible choice– whether or not to flee the city to protect her daughter’s life, when leaving means abandoning the struggle for freedom for which she has already sacrificed so much.
The film received many awards, including the Palme d'Or for Best Documentary at the Cannes Film Festival.
