Context
You will join the Institutional Funding North Europe team (FINE) at Humanity & Inclusion office in Brussels. This team mobilises funding from a portfolio of donors’ accounts that includes the EU (mainly ECHO, INTPA, EEAS, NEAR and FPI), the Nordic countries (Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark) and the Benelux countries (Belgium, Luxembourg, The Netherlands).
You will work under the supervision of the EU Partnership Advisor, and in close collaboration with the other members of the FINE team, and specifically with the 2 other EU Institutional Partnership Advisor and Officer. Throughout the traineeship, you will be given opportunity to experiment varied tasks and be given regular feedback on your performance to help you grow.
Main learning objectives:
- You will be able to strengthen your understanding of international cooperation for development, international partnerships and humanitarian action, specifically regarding the European Commission on the global scene.
- You will be able to improve your knowledge and skills on communication as well as your organisational and analysis skills.
- You will be able to gain an understanding of the ways of working of a busy INGO, in an international, multicultural environment.
Responsibilities and Objectives
Objective 1: Support to programmatic analysis in the framework of the new EU Funding Cycle
Main tasks:
- Carry out an analysis on the different partnerships proposed by the new EU legal framework and apply it to HI’s own policies in collaboration with our lawyers and advisors.
- Present this analysis to relevant HI’s operational and technical staff
- Monitor HI contracts signed under EU portfolio and develop a data base for analysis of key criteria
Objective 2: Carry out an analysis of HI’s project final evaluations reports funded by DG INTPA/ DG NEAR/ EEAS/ FPI
Main tasks:
- Provide an analysis report that shows if the evaluation criteria were reached by the project and its possible effect with ensuring a next phase of funding (i.e. second phase funded or rejected)
- Work on a set of recommendations to support the improvement of projects implementation
- Present this analysis to relevant HI’s operational and technical staff.
- Carry out any other relevant analysis depending on the candidate’s interests and on the team’s needs.
Objective 3: Support the development and management of information and communication materials in relation to EU funding
Main tasks:
1. Support the redesigning of the EU space on HInside (collaborative intranet network for sharing information within HI)
- Based on an example provided, work on a new layout for the EU space on HInside
- Feed relevant information to the above-mentioned space and make sure that this information is available in a user-friendly way.
Candidate profile (skills, knowledge & interests)
- Master in the field of communication, and/or international cooperation, humanitarian affairs, social sciences (or any other relevant field)
- A first successful professional experience is desired (volunteering, internship, employment…)
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office Package and Content Management System (CMS) for use in website administration
- Fluent in English and French
- Excellent analysis skills
- Dynamic, self-organised and detail-oriented,
- Comfortable working in a multicultural environment
- Interest in humanitarian action and international cooperation and in HI’s mandate
